Here Comes the Sun...

A few prominently sunny days in the past week has helped the leafy ones thrive a bit...about 5 inches high, lettuce coming along...it will be a while for the swiss chard to fully bloom. Can't wait. Fortunately, no pests disturbing any of the plants so far.....we shall be patient and see what's to come....

Chill Before the Chow

It's been very, very cold in L.A. this year. In the mornings I go to water my garden and my fingers practically freeze off.  It's exciting to see what continues to thrive and what has stalled. I've been so eager to see the first floret of the broccoli, and the maturing leaves of the arugula and lettuce.
It seems that aside from sun, water, and proper organic soil, the only other major contributing factor is a steady favorable temperature. I could still start some indoor pots. But instead, I doubled up on the "mini" greenhouses. These handy-dandy, recycled plastic bottles are doing a nice job giving some warmth to my seedlings-soon-to-be-edible-goodies!

I decided to also use the bottom half of discarded bottles and cut out to make an opening for the growing plant. Nice to know there's always a way to use, re-use, recycle plastics...
