Lettuce Give Thanks for The New Year!

As some of you gardeners already know, winter is for lettuce, swiss chard, arugula, broccoli. Pretty much all green leafies thrive this time of year. Even here, in sunny Southern California, with mid-day temps reaching up to the 80s, the earth tells these guys it's okay to go ahead and sprout. I like to think it's the cool, crisp mornings and the chilled out dry evenings keeping them happy.  Once they reach a few more inches in height, I will harvest these pretty greenies for some beautiful, colorful salads.

It's nice to know that this year, I did not have to place little plastic mini-greenhouses around my seedlings, as we have not yet had super cold mornings.

This season: Lettuce growing fine on their own

This time last year: Mini-greenhouses placed to help the seedlings grow
