Veronica's Kitchen Day 11: Hand-washing 101





If Grandma Veronica had one absolute rule in the kitchen, it was to wash our hands. Before any food preparation- and as proper kitchen etiquette dictates- we'd wash our hands with soap and hot water. She taught us this basic principle from an early age; working the soap to a lather, we'd rub the tops, palms, sides of our hands, and between our fingers. Her expression when she performed this ritual was one of great joy and fervor, for it was the prelude to a bountiful meal or a new recipe she had learned.

It goes without saying that hand-washing is truly the single most effective way of preventing the spread of germs. The occurrence of food-borne illnesses as well as human-to-human transmitted germs are all greatly reduced with the use of proper hand-washing. In the kitchen, it is absolutely mandatory, as you will serve family and guests food that comes from your hands(and your heart).
