Apples not only kept the doctor away from grandma (and for a very long time), but they were also her favorite night time snack.

Approximately 300 days out of the year, a good 2-3 hours after dinner, grandma would make her evening ritual out of grabbing a crisp apple from the fridge, along with a paring knife and a plate, and trail off to the living room to watch her favorite television programs. Apples were what she considered a low calorie, high-efficiency, perfect night-time snack. In her later years, she would also add them to her morning juicing repertoire. She'd swear by its many health properties. It is a natural antacid, helps in digestion, and promotes fresher breath.

But don't take my word for it. Read some more about apples in this easily digestible (pun intended), recent medical article published online:

Tip:  If you like to eat your apples with the peel on (which offers more nutrients of course), try to choose an organic variety whenever possible. Apples are sprayed with more pesticide than any other conventionally grown tree fruit in the U.S.  In fact 48 different pesticides have been found on these fruits. So, for a few cents more, buy the better apple and enjoy its superior taste and healthier content.
